Spaghetti Sauce

Serves 8

Sometimes called Gravy if you're a fan of the Soprano's or The Godfather. This is another recipe that brings back a flood of childhood memories. And smells. Spaghetti sauce is what Sunday smells like. Mom would put the pot on after church, and the whole house would smell of wonderful Italian cooking. This recipe can also be watered down to use in such dishes as lasagna or baked ziti, where the sauce is incorporated into the main dish.

1 two-pound can tomato puree
2 cans tomato paste, small
1 one-pound can whole tomatoes, blended
1 T salt
1/4 t pepper
1 t sugar
1/2 t basil
sprinkle of garlic powder
couple pinches of oregano
2 C water

Add ingredients to pot with meat* along with drippings and onion. Cook with lid on loose, on low heat for three to four hours. Stir often.

Crock pot instructions: Same as above except reduce water to one cup and cook on low heat for 10 to 12 hours.
